1921, Jan 26 Addressed a public meeting in Bombay. Refused inclusion of his name in list, prepared by the Government, of politicians who were against non-cooperation movement.
Feb 19 Speaking on the political situation in the country at Gokhale's death anniversary in Bombay, opposed Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi's doctrine of non-cooperation, and said that he did not believe in it, and could not support it, because he felt that "if we are going to regulate everything in our country by the doctrine of non-violent non-cooperation, then I am afraid we are forgetting human nature".
Apr 19-20 In view of the fact that The Bombay Chronicle, had abandoned its policy of "neutrality" and became a protagonist of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi 's non-cooperation program, resigned from the chairmanship of its Board of Directors and severed all connections with it.
Jun 20 Wrote a letter to The Times London, discussing Indian aspirations in the context of the prevailing situation.
Aug 8 In a letter to Montagu from Paris informed him that he was leaving Marseilles on August 13 and reaching Bombay about August 29. Hoped that he (Montagu) would have done what he had promised. Said that his proposal, to be considered by Lord Reading and him, would ensure a fair and honorable settlement, which would make, the British Commonwealth a reality.
Sep 18 In an interview to the Representative, Nature England, answered questions on Indian agitation.
Oct 9 Invited to Indian National Congress Working Committee meeting at Bombay.
Oct 27 Attended All India Muslim League Council meeting to discuss Khilafat question, along with five other members.
Nov 1 Met with Lord Reading and discussed the political situation.
Dec 24-27 Along with Malaviya, attended the Ahmedabad Indian National Congress session with a view to inducing it to pass a Resolution extending a formal welcome to the proposed Round Table Conference designed to help find a way out of the impasse and devise a solution acceptable to the non-cooperators and the Government but only to be thwarted by Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi who considered it "undignified for the Congress to pass such a Resolution".
Dec 27 Along with Malaviya and Jayakar, visited Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi to persuade him to make peace with the government.
Dec 28 Attended All India Muslim League Council meeting along with 14 other members. Council approved of the annual session program; authorized Hon. Secretary to communicate with the government in order to Secure facilities for the Moplah inquiry and resolved to request Working Committee of Indian National Congress to meet the All India Muslim League Council reps., including Mohammed Ali Jinnah, to consider the All India Muslim League proposal.
